Presentation on Preparing for an Emergency as a Person with Diabetes (PWD)
At the link below, you will find a presentation on how to prepare for emergencies as a person with Diabetes. This is an important topic for anyone with Diabetes, but especially for aging people with Type 1 – you never know when you will be facing a natural disaster, an emergency evacuation, or an unexpected trip to the hospital. Having a “Go Bag” ready with the necessary supplies to survive could save your life.
Preparing for emergencies is a topic that we seldom like to think about, but it’s essential for our safety. And it involves a series of tasks to do that may feel overwhelming. This presentation outlines the steps you need to take to complete the task. This presentation is intended for your review, but it is also suitable for sharing with others.
You may be part of a social group of T1Ds that meets regularly to talk about the common issues we face. Alternatively, you could attend meetings of local chapters of organizations that address Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) issues. You may be a podcaster for a T1D audience. We offer this presentation (along with our other resources in this section of the website) for you to use when talking to these groups about the topic of preparedness.
We encourage you to use it, present it to others, and provide us with your feedback (Feedback/Suggestions to the Preparedness Presentation) so we can improve it, as needed.
Thank you.
