New Study Highlights Stressors of Living with Type 1 Diabetes as an Older Adult

This article reviews a study from the University of North Carolina published in the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications evaluating diabetes distress for people over the age of 65. Interesting findings include elevated levels of diabetes distress for 36% of the patients in the study and, surprisingly, lower levels of diabetes distress for patients diagnosed earlier or who had been living with it longer. The findings indicate a need to provide relief and treatment for the stressors that could eventually lead to diabetes distress, including new clinical trials with a focus on older adults.
