- Date: Thursday, 30 October 2025
- Time: 5pm PT/ 8pm ET / 11am AEDT

Medha Munshi, MD, has been a researcher in gerontology and endocrinology for over 20 years, long before anyone was really talking about the issues we face as we live/age with Type 1 diabetes. And she was the first to jump on the T1Dto100 Advisory Panel. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School and founder of the International Geriatric Diabetes Society (https://www.geriatricdiabetes.org/).
The primary focus of Dr. Munshi’s clinical research is to identify the challenges faced by older individuals with diabetes, develop strategies to overcome these barriers, and improve clinical and functional outcomes, including quality of life.
The crucial areas for her investigations have included the changes/challenges of treating hypoglycemia & hyperglycemia as we age, diabetes management in community-living older adults, and diabetes management in the LTC facilities.
Some of the research topics we will hear about from Dr. Munshi:
- Dementia/cognition
- Mobility and muscle strength, including hands,
- Loss of loved ones and support system,
- Care in hospitals and facilities (and how to prepare and be safe)
- Managing T1D and technology
- How the aging T1D experiences hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia … and how to manage it.
- Recommendations to the community
- How to be involved in studies and with the research community?
We are so honored to have Dr. Munshi share her work and listen to the voices of our community!

Interview – Diabetes in My Back Pocket: A 65-Year Journey with Type 1
Judith Jones Ambrosini is the oldest person I know with type 1 diabetes, and she’s probably had it longer than anyone I know. When I was beginning to make my mark in diabetes, she was already in the thick of it. She’s been a board member with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), a board member of DESA (Diabetes Exercise and Sports Association), a journalist who wrote for many diabetes magazines, a professional chef and caterer who taught nutrition, she volunteered at Children with Diabetes’ conferences for more than twenty years, and taught Tai Chi at TCOYD (Taking Control of Your Diabetes) conferences in San Diego. When I first met Judith, thirty odd years ago, she blared at me something I’ve never forgotten: “You’re using the poor man’s pump!,” while looking at my syringe trying to convert me. Alas, she never did, but I loved her passion and commitment to helping others. At 83, Judith tells it like it is, then and now, and shares a few wild stories in-between.
T1DStrong – Aging with Type 1 Diabetes: Joanne Milo on Research Gaps and Systems Reform
More adults are reaching older age with type 1 diabetes (T1D) than ever before, yet research, hospital care, and long-term support systems have not kept pace with their needs. Joanne Milo, diagnosed in 1965, is pushing for change through advocacy, research discussions, and her platform T1D to 100. As the population of older adults living with T1D grows, she argues that the health care system must respond with better data, better training, and better infrastructure.
Webinar – GLP-1s and Type 1 Diabetes: What You Actually Need to Know Presented by Dr. Steve Edelman
We’re honored to host Dr. Steve Edelman, T1D, endocrinologist, founder of @TCOYD, who has lived with T1D himself for decades. He’ll share an honest look at what GLP-1 and other “off-label” medications mean for people with Type 1 diabetes.
Webinar – Aging Well with T1D: A Look at Life Plan Communities

Interview – Hearts Afire: Surviving the 2025 Altadena Wildfire
She saw it coming closer on social media and the TV News, she heard the howling winds, but she couldn’t imagine that it could reach all the way to her house. So many previous fires had stayed in the foothills and not ventured into the neighborhoods of Altadena, CA. But as a T1D of 61 years, Dorothy Noe smelled, and then saw, the approaching danger. Over a period of hours on January 7 and 8, 2025, she and her husband had to take action. When she evacuated her house that dark, early morning, she never imagined that she’d never return.
